Marina Donderis Danza
MARINA DONDERIS (Valencia, Spain) is the founder and artistic director of MARINA DONDERIS DANZA. She trained as a dancer at the Conservatorio de Danza de Valencia in classical ballet and has danced in the Compañía de Danza Contemporánea de Ramon Solé in Barcelona, the Compañía del Gran Teatro del Liceo de Barcelona, and the Ballet Clásico Nacional, in Madrid (now known as the Compañía Nacional de Danza, directed by Nacho Duato).

In 1993 she travelled to Bangalore, India where she investigated the fusion of modern dance and classical Indian dance, resulting in her first work “Danza Cíclica de los Tótems” (1994). As a choreographer and dancer she has collaborated with film director Manuel Palacios in several video dance projects one of which, “La Habitación Desnuda” (1992) (the first Spanish video dance filmed in High Definition Format), received the “SPECIAL PRESS AWARD – LA ESTAMPA” at the IL COREOGRAFO ELETTRONICO festival in Naples, Italy (1993) and the “ASTROLABIUM AWARD FOR MUSIC AND DANCE”, at the INTERNATIONAL ELECTRONIC FILM FESTIVAL in Montreux, Switzerland, (1993). In 1996 she moved to New York City where she studied choreography for three years at Movement Research while also collaborating with Spanish fashion designer Elena Bajo, the New York performance duo, Praxis and sculptor Ulrich Ruckriem in the fashion/dance /performance show, “Shadows of Reality” (1998).

Donderis continues to seek collaboration with other artists through a multidisciplinary approach in which she integrates visual and plastic art, performance and poetry in her choreographies. Her previous work, “Elizabeth” (2001) incorporates video dance and poetry in a unique version of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. "DESTINATION” (2003) - a work in constant progress - premiered at the "II Valencia Biennale" in the main exhibition, “A&M Department Store of Appropriate Behaviour” , June 7, 2003. It has been presented at the "Edinburgh Festival Fringe", "Dansa Valencia", the "27 International Choreographers´ Showcase" in Paris and the "Festival Cartografías de la Danza" in Madrid in January 2005 and opened for the festival "Encuentros en Asturias". It was selected for the "Improvisation Festival of Miami" in June 2005. She is currently in production on her latest work, "Amor en Re", which will premiere in Torrent, Spain in 2006.
